Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!
Hi, I’m Joy! You might know me as The Bayou Belle, where I’ve shared countless recipes and my passion for cooking. I’m still here, creating and loving every moment in the kitchen, but in 2023 my life took a major turn. After years of being very sick, I was finally diagnosed with cancer. Things moved quickly after I learned I had Neuroendocrine peri-ampullary cancer—quite a mouthful, and sadly not the tasty kind. That year, I underwent a Whipple procedure (pancreaticoduodenectomy) to remove my tumors. Unfortunately, the surgery didn’t succeed as hoped, and now, in August 2025, I’ll be undergoing another in hopes of finally resolving the ongoing issues. I’m still cooking and will keep updating here, along with refreshing older recipes. But now, this space is about more than just food—I want to inspire and encourage anyone facing challenges like mine. Whether you’re unwell, a busy parent, or simply looking for delicious recipes, I hope you’ll find something here to love.
Update: November 2025
I’ve been doing really well since having the Whipple Reconstruction. This journey has been exhausting and, at times, truly difficult, but I’m eager to see what life looks like on the other side. I’m excited for Thanksgiving and hope you’ll discover recipes here that you’ll love and share at your family gathering!
