School, Practice, Dinner, Oh My!

I have a very different schedule than most parents.  Obviously, we homeschool and I can do it at night, the mornings like a traditional school, or whenever we want.  I always do it early. The earlier the better for my kids and myself honestly. We do our school, lunch (break) then finish up any schooling and head out to practices (homeschool PE, cheerleading, baseball, basketball, you name it- I try to keep them super active!).

We have this thing in our house called 5 o'clock shuffle.  Do you have the shuffle in your house?  If we aren't running around town, we are home getting dinner ready and doing the whole night time hoo-ha.  My kids start losing their mind.  Literally. It's like "who the heck are you?" I don't know what happens.

It seems so chaotic and I try to get my kids busy doing something that will allow me to keep my sanity and prepare dinner.

"Mama, I'm hungry"

"Mama, can I have a snack"

"Mama, watch this cartwheel for the 400th time"

"Mama, can I help you cut this"

"Mama, watch me jump"

"Mama, watch me lift my leg"

"Mama......................."

You know this picture, right?

I love to make them go play in their room, but when that doesn't happen I set up their Osmo. They got this from their Grammee this Christmas. We absolutely love this.  It's educational and my kids become entranced with it.  They are quiet and engaged, it just does so much.  The downfall is you obviously already have to have an iPad.  But it is quite worth it!

Osmo has many different apps.  It teaches them letters along with reading sight words, shapes, math and numbers, art, and coding. There are different kits, and you can choose the best one fitted for your child... Or get them all like we did.  They really do like every single one.

So, if ever you need help and don't want to just throw a screen of some sort at them, try the Osmo.  Yes, it is still screen time, but it is fun and educational. Rewarding for the whole house.

I've included the links below. Try one out. I think you and your child will be happy with it.

Rainy Lunch

Today is such a rainy yucky day.  I was out and about with my dad and was going to just swing by our favorite Mexician place to grab lunch, but decided to just go home.  I think that was a good choice because none of us wanted to get wet again. What fun is that?

Sometimes it's really hard to find motivation to cook every meal every day, am I right? But I came home because I knew I took some meat out the other day and could cook that quickly.

I decided to cut it up and make steak tips.  I took some broccoli out of the freezer and roasted it in the oven. Then, I made some instant pot macaroni.  Man, I can't tell you how easy it is to cook that mac! I was and am still a bit intimidated by my instant pot.  I got it to make yogurt.  I was so excited when I saw that thing online, I told my husband that I wanted it because we eat so much yogurt over here. I just knew I'd be making yogurt ALL the dang time.  Have I made it? No. ha!  Fooled him! Just kidding. Sort of.

I still plan on making that yogurt one day.

Super soon. ;o)

So I made our steak tips in a pan with a little olive oil and butter. Salt and pepper to our liking and cooked to our preference.

What is your preference in how your meat is cooked? Do you like it well done? rare? medium?

Back in the day I liked it well done. I did not want to see pink in my meat! Now.... I like it medium, medium rare.  So funny how your taste buds change over time!

I am glad I got the motivation to come home and cook, this ended up being an easy lunch to whip up and the kids made happy plates.  Can't ask for much more than that!

Long nights

Sometimes I sit here and find the nights get harder for me. I love my nights. Like most moms and dads, it is time I have to myself to watch tv, read, or whatever else I may want to do.

Lately, my kids have gotten into a bad habit of not wanting to sleep in their room. They share a room because they wanted bunk beds and just flat out wanted to share a room. Now my daughter has been trying to come in our room in the middle of the night. This upsets my son. So we've come up with a maybe middle of the road solution and let them sleep in the living room.

At first, it didn't bother me. Then slowly there have been more and more plushes coming into the living room and the type "A" in me comes out and wants everything cleared out.

I try to take a step back and know that just like all the other little stages in life, I will hardly think back and remember this mess.

Then tonight, they made a fort. I think there may be 40 plushes in there, ha!  (Can you even spot the 2nd kid?) My brain immediately goes to "oh my gosh I can't wait to pick that up in the morning".

Y'all, look how sweet.  And I mean really, is there any way she is freaking comfortable? I move on pass the clutter knowing they are happy. They are peacefully asleep knowing their parents are right in the room next to them. That is what matters. Comfort. Warmth. Love. The mess will be a thing of the past before you know it.

Cherry Berry

My baby. My booboo. My sweetie pie.

You can call this little girl just about anything and she will fit it. My other little boy just didn't happen to be in the photo at the time.  He was sitting not too far away on the loveseat behind me. But this little girl, she won't leave my side.  She is attached, and I love it just that way.

Have you ever had a dog help you heal? These two, we weren't planning on, they just happened.  I had my two dogs for 10 years before, and within the same year they passed.  I was very depressed after losing them. Many people who know me know how much they meant to me. They didn't get as much attention after having the kids, like most dogs find.

We stumbled upon these two dogs and knew we had to have them. They have brought so much light into our lives.  They love like no other, and they make sure to show it.  Crazy kisses come in all sizes for everyone who walks through this door.  I've never seen dogs love kids the way the loves ours. Our kids sure feel the love too which makes me extra happy.

I wish all dogs could feel this loved.

Edited to to add a picture of my other little. Chew Boo.

Itty Bitty City

I live in a cute little town.  I call it an itty bitty city now, because growing up it was super small, and it has grown so very much now.

You can stroll the town and find somewhere to enjoy a great meal, or you can stop in and antique shop in the many stores. It seems there is always a craft fair or trade show to enjoy.

drive down south a minute and go enjoy some catfish while catching a beautiful swamp sunset.

It still has the same charm and best little qualities you won't find many other places. A true southern gem.
