The Bayou Belle is kicking off a new series on her blog: The Bayou Belle Tells...

In this series, she’ll be visiting local dining spots and providing honest reviews.

The Bayou Belle Tells…

**The Depeaux**

Tucked away in the heart of Independence, Louisiana, you’ll find a relaxed and tasty Southern eatery that's perfect for delicious bites.

Fun fact: They source fresh, local ingredients from Louisiana!

What did we try?

**Box Car Fries** - 10/10

Don’t be fooled when they arrive looking like McDonald’s French fries topped with a bit of cheese. The cheese is hidden at the bottom, along with aioli and gravy. Then, the fries are layered with more cheese, aioli, gravy, bacon, green onions, and jalapeños. They’re light and flavorful—I wished I could have more!

**Onion Rings** - Normally I’d give these a 9/10 because they’re wonderfully seasoned, and the batter is perfectly crispy. However, on the day we tried them, they weren’t fried well, and the batter was falling off. Still, they tasted great!

**Chicken Wings** - 10/10

You can't skip these. Every time. Every flavor. Always on point!

**The Depeaux Burger** - 9/10

This burger features the most delicious beef patty atop a homemade sesame brioche bun. It lost a point because the bun was so fresh that it soaked up the juices, making it feel a bit dry.

**Fried Brussels Sprouts** - 10/10

A must-try! They’re crispy and drizzled with a sauce that makes you feel like Asian flavors just met Cajun. Absolutely fantastic!

Dishes we have enjoyed previously:

**Chicken Breast Sandwich** - 10/10

(I recommend it fried) with house-made dill pickles, ranch, and shredded lettuce on a toasted sesame seed bun.

Pro tip: Add a sauce to the chicken sandwich!

**Buffalo Mac and Cheese** - 10/10

This is my daughter’s favorite! It features creamy pasta, seasoned lightly, with fried buffalo chicken bites.

Stay tuned for more reviews!
