The Bayou Belle Tells- The Depeaux
The Bayou Belle is kicking off a new series on the blog: The Bayou Belle Tells...
In this series, I’ll be visiting local dining spots and providing honest reviews.
The Bayou Belle Tells…
**The Depeaux**
Tucked away in the heart of Independence, Louisiana, you’ll find a relaxed and tasty Southern eatery that's perfect for delicious bites.
Fun fact: They source fresh, local ingredients from Louisiana!
What did we try?
**Box Car Fries** - 4.5/5
Don’t be fooled when they arrive looking like McDonald’s French fries topped with a bit of cheese. The cheese is hidden at the bottom, along with aioli and gravy. Then, the fries are layered with more cheese, aioli, gravy, bacon, green onions, and jalapeños. They’re light and flavorful—I wished I could have more!
**Onion Rings** - 3/5
Normally I’d give these a 4.5 via a previous visit- because they’re wonderfully seasoned, and the batter is perfectly crispy. However, the last time we tried them, they weren’t fried well, and the batter was falling off.
**Chicken Wings** -5/5
You can't skip these. Every time. Every flavor. Always on point!
**The Depeaux Burger** - 3/5
This burger features the most delicious beef patty atop a sesame brioche bun. The bun felt like a fresh homemade sesame brioche bun, which soaked up the juices from the burger. It made it feel dry and a bit tough to bite through, but the star of the show is the beef.
**Fried Brussels Sprouts** - 5/5
A must-try! They’re crispy and drizzled with a sauce that makes you feel like Asian flavors just met Cajun. Absolutely fantastic!
Dishes we have enjoyed previously:
**Chicken Breast Sandwich** - 5/5
(I recommend it fried) with house-made dill pickles, ranch, and shredded lettuce on a toasted sesame seed bun.
Pro tip: Add a sauce to the chicken sandwich!
**Buffalo Mac and Cheese** - 5/5
This is my daughter’s favorite! It features creamy pasta, seasoned lightly, with fried buffalo chicken bites.
Overall I think it is a spot to stop in and try out. I love that the restaurant incorporates local ingredients. The vibe is rustic, but cozy… and a little Southern Grit thrown in.
Service is outstanding. This is still a quiet spot, one that can be a social or cozy.
Stay tuned for more reviews!
