SHRIMP CREOLE
Shrimp Creole... Mmmmmmmm. Make your house smell like voodoo magic!
Okay. Maybe not.
But it will smell amazing and the taste is just as mind blowing. After your first bite, you'll start hearing jazz music and feel like you're sitting down in New Orleans.
Ingredients:
1 stick of butter
2 cups chopped onions
1 cup chopped green bell peppers
1 cup chopped celery
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
2 bay leaves
1 can 28oz whole peeled tomatoes
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tbsp flour
1 cup water (optional- can use 2 cups of chicken stock instead of chicken/water mixture)
1 cup chicken stock (Or shrimp- if available)
2 pounds peeled and deveined Biloxi Seafood Company shrimp 60/90ct (use bigger if entertaining)
1 tbsp slap ya mama cajun seasoning
1-2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4-1/2 cup green onions
4 cups cooked white long-grain rice
Directions:
In a large pan, melt 1 stick of butter
Add onions, bell pepper and celery to the pan
Season with salt and cayenne
Saute them until soft
Put the bay leaves, tomatoes and garlic powder in the pan
Cook on high and then bring to a simmer for 15 minutes
Whisk the flour and water together and add to the tomato sauce in the pan
Cook for 5 minutes
Add the chicken stock
Season shrimp with slap ya mama seasoning and toss around to coat them
Add the shrimp to the pan and cook until they are pink and done (about 7-8 minutes)
Stir in green onions
Serve over rice
