Shrimp and sausage gravy over biscuits
Y'all. This is one of my favorite side dishes to make. It really can be a meal all alone- what a wonderful Brunch dish! The gravy is so full of flavor it hits every part of your mouth. If you don't have biscuits or don't want to make them, you can dip with Ritz crackers or put it on baguette toast. Any way you pair it, you will love it!
Ingredients:
1 tbsp bacon fat
1.5 lbs of green onion sausage or cajun hot sausage (my favorite)
1 medium onion
2 tbsp flour
1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 green bell pepper
6 cloves garlic
1 tsp red pepper flakes (start with less if you use cajun sausage)
4 dashes of Worcestershire
1 can (15oz) diced tomatoes in their juices
1 box (32oz) Chicken broth
Slap ya mama cajun seasoning to taste
Directions:
Melt the bacon fat in a large pot and add the sausage.
Cook and break it apart with a spoon for about 13 minutes.
Add the onions and cook them down for about 10 minutes.
Add flour to the pan and mix it around for about 2 minutes.
Season the shrimp with Slap Ya Mama seasoning.
Add them to the pan and cook until pink.
Add bell peppers, garlic, tomatoes, pepper flakes, Worcestershire and Chicken Broth to the pot.
Let it come to a low boil and then turn down the heat and cook it down.
If it is not thick enough add more flour.
Taste and adjust seasonings.
Serve over biscuits.
