sugar and spice cornbread

If you live in the South, you darn well better know how to make cornbread. People usually have family recipes passed down over generations.
Here I am, nobody to pass me down a recipe, and I still know three different types of cornbread I will post on here!
What does that mean?
Nothing really. Just that some people like a sweet cornbread, some like it sweet and spicy (me) and some like it basic. Some may say that a certain one is a “yankee” way.  I will have to disagree, I don’t think their is a wrong or right way to make it, it is all about what you like!

  • Ingredients:
    1 slice of bacon
    4 large eggs
    3/4 cup water
    2/3 cup Oil
    3/8 cup heavy whipping cream
    3 tbsp. buttermilk
    2 tbsp. honey
    1 tbsp. cane syrup
    2 1/4 cup flour
    1 cup yellow cornmeal
    3/4 cup granulated sugar
    1.5 tsp baking powder
    1.5 tsp slap ya mama
    1 tsp cayenne pepper

  • Directions:
    Preheat oven to 400
In a cast iron skillet, cook your bacon on medium heat to render out the fat
While it is cooking mix your wet ingredients in one bowl and your dry ingredients in a separate bowl
Make a well in your dry ingredient bowl and slowly pour in your wet ingredients
    Mix until well combined
Remove the bacon from the pan
    Pour cornbread batter into pan
Place in oven and cook for about 25 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean
