Oh Chocolate. If you follow me, you know how much I love chocolate.  I mean, you could just go look in my dessert section and see. Ha!
Anyways, chocolate pie is such a staple in the South. Pie in general, really.  This pie is a pie my aunt always bragged about.  Before she made it for me, I tried it out on my own and have never stopped making it since!

Ingredients:

  • 1 premade pie shell (deep, if you don't want leftover mixture- which is good for pudding)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 cups milk
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 4 oz unsweet chocolate
  • 1 oz intense dark chocolate
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whipped cream for topping
  • Reserved dark chocolate for shaving

  • Directions:
  • Heat oven according to directions for your pie shell
  • Cook accordingly
  • In a medium sauce pan place sugar, cornstarch and salt
  • Start to heat it
  • Mix eggs and milk in a bowl
  • Dump into the heated saucepan and continue to stir until it comes to a boil
  • Turn down heat a little and continue to stir it while it thickens
  • When thickened, add chocolate and vanilla
  • Mix well
  • Pour into cooked shell
  • Make whipped cream
  • Top with whipped cream
