white chocolate orange cut out sugar cookies
These are my favorite cookies to make during Valentines and Mardi Gras holiday! They are fun because you can cut them out into whatever shape you want, and they are bright in flavor.
Mardi Gras is so full of flavor down here, so I thought it would be fun to have a bright and happy flavored cookie, which I think I achieved here!
And as far as Valentine's goodies go, this still has chocolate (white) and has a nice cut with the orange, so a little change up on the regular chocolate we indulge in!
6 oz white chocolate chips
2 3/4 cup flour (more for dusting)
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 sticks butter, room temp, unsalted
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp orange extract
Royal icing
Directions:
Put white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl and warm it in 30 second intervals, mix
While it cools, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl
Beat butter, sugar with mixer until fluffy and light- 5 minutes
Beat in the egg until smooth
Beat in melted white chocolate
Add in the orange extract
Slowly add in flour
Mix until combined
I then roll my dough into a big ball, and put it on top of saranwrap and roll it into a really long square, you can divide the dough so you have two squares
I roll them as thin as I want my cookies, then I place them on a cookie sheet and put them in the fridge to chill for 2 hours
After 2 hours, I take them out and cut them into the shapes I want
Cook for 12-15 minutes
Cool on pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool
